True HEPA filters

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter, a paper thin, glass-fiber filter pleated into a V shape configuration. This filter is capable of filtering 99.97% of all microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns in size.
HEPA filters do not remove gases or volatile organic compounds (VOCs )

How HEPA filters work?

Contaminated air passes though the filter while mold spores and bacteria as small as 0.3 microns get trapped in the filter. Since this filter cant be washed and reused, air purifier manufacturers usually put the HEPA filter as the last layer of air filtration to prolong the filter’s lifespan.


Pre Mesh Filter

Are usually just plastic mesh which is used as the 1st filter in an air purifier and capture large dust clumps and hairs.

How pre mesh filter work?

This pre filter is used to filter larger particles in the air before entering the other finer air filters, primarily use to prolong the life span of the other filters. An essential filter for air purifiers.

Active carbon filters

Carbon filter are used to filter out volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) smoke, cooking smells, odors and chemicals which is why it is very important for filtering any type of smoke firstly for the chemical compounds and that nasty odor, cigarettes and cigars leave behind.

How do activated carbon filters work?

When air passes through the carbon filter impurities, gases, and odors get trapped in the porous structure of carbon. This process is called adsorption. These carbon filters can be washed and reused.
This filtration system is also used for filtering water.


Air ionizer

An ion generator within an air purifier will create a positive or negative charge, usually a negative ion. These Negative ions are oxygen atoms which are negatively-charged electrons.

How do negative ions work?

Negative ions attach themselves to airborne allergens such as: spores, pollen, mold, bacteria and viruses and thereby help with neutralization or elimination of these allergens.
The negative  ions bond together and create a dense dirt particle that is too heavy to float in the air these and drop to the ground.
Negative and positive ions are created naturally in nature.


UV-C light C-bandwidth

Ultraviolet (UV-C) is a short-wave length light used to kill or inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions.

How does ultra-violet light work?

Ultra-violet (UV) lamps are effective in killing mold and mold spores but only if the airborne allergens are exposed to the UV light for a long enough time.
UV-C light cause no harm to humans but may produce ozone.

PECO

Photo-electrochemical oxidation: purportedly break down pollutants as small as 0.1 nano meters developed by Dr. Yogi Goswami, specifically designed to filter air pollutants, mold spores which cause allergy related symptoms. Air particles smaller that 0.3 microns which cant be filtered by HEPA filters.

How does PECO work?

Peco is a light-activated catalytic reaction, which destroys airborne particles that pass through this process.
Not commonly found in retail air purifiers, but when it is present the added benefit of having it is that it destroys the various mold spores and other bacteria before reaching the HEPA filter where they can reproduce and clog up and shorten the life span of the HEPA filter.


Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO)

Is an air purification technology, which can destroy pollutants as tiny as 0.0001 microns. Used to destroy microorganisms, VOCs and CACs.
Being a forerunner for the PECO variation. The difference here is that it is inefficient and can generate ozone, as a side effect even cause irritation to the respiration system.


Titanium dioxide (TiO2)

(TiO2) technology – nanoparticles of TiO2, together with calcium carbonate neutralize acidic gas particles when mixed into slightly porous paint. Not an purification method used air purifiers.


Ozone generators (O3)

Ozone is a strong oxidant gas which can oxidize airborne pollutants. Effective for removing smoke odors, musty smells,toxic molds. Only for unoccupied spaces as it’s hazardous to breath.


Electrostatic precipitators

Remove suspended particles from the air by applying high-voltage electrostatic charges to collect dust particles on charged plates.


Thermodynamic Sterilization (TSS)

TSS Is a purification system that uses heat sterilization through a ceramic core to heat with microcapillaries at 200 degrees centigrade.
